The Grand Rapids Area Bee Club (GRABC) Mentorship Program is designed to support new and developing beekeepers through hands-on learning, shared experience, and a welcoming community of peers. Hosted at our mentoring apiary at Robinette’s Apple Haus and Winery, the program follows the rhythm of a full beekeeping season, giving participants the opportunity to learn directly in the hive alongside experienced mentors.
Participants meet regularly throughout the season to observe hive inspections, learn practical management techniques, and build confidence through real-world beekeeping scenarios. Led by experienced GRABC volunteers, the mentorship program focuses on practical skills, seasonal decision-making, and creating a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and learning happens together.
Whether you are preparing to start your first hive or looking to strengthen your foundational skills, the GRABC Mentorship Program provides structured guidance, hands-on practice, and connection with the local beekeeping community.

The GRABC Mentorship Program is a season-long, hands-on beekeeping experience designed to help participants build skills and confidence through guided learning in a real apiary setting. Participants work alongside experienced mentors and fellow beekeepers while following the natural rhythm of a full beekeeping season.
The program is ideal for beginners, new beekeepers, or anyone looking to strengthen foundational skills through practical, in-the-hive experience. No prior beekeeping experience is required, but curiosity and willingness to learn are essential!
Participants attend scheduled sessions approximately every few weeks throughout the beekeeping season (typically May through October). Because the program builds skills over time, participants are expected to attend regularly for the full season.
Sessions include hive inspections, seasonal management discussions, demonstrations of beekeeping techniques, and opportunities to ask questions and learn collaboratively. Each session reflects what the bees need at that time of year.
Yes. The mentorship program requires a registration fee, which helps cover equipment, apiary maintenance, and program coordination.
GRABC provides shared beekeeping equipment such as hive tools, smokers, and other necessary supplies to support learning and maintain consistency across the apiary.
Participants must provide their own bee suit and veil for safety and proper fit. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are also required.
Beekeeping is weather-dependent. If a session must be rescheduled, makeup dates are built into the program schedule whenever possible.
