Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) Apiary Nights

Apiary Nights are informal, hands-on learning sessions held at the Grand Rapids Community College Apiary. Participants observe and partake in hive inspections, learn practical beekeeping skills, ask questions, and connect with local beekeepers in a relaxed, supportive environment. 

Not at all! Beginners and curious community members are welcome. Whether you’re thinking about getting bees someday or just want to learn more, Apiary Nights are designed to be accessible and educational for all experience levels. 

 If you have your own veil or suit, feel free to bring it. Otherwise we will supply full bee suits (certain sizes may be limited). Regardless, we recommend wearing long pants, closed-toe shoes, and light-colored clothing. Do not bring your own gloves, hive tools, or other beekeeping equipment in order to prevent disease transmission. These will be provided.

 Apiary Nights are typically free and supported by community volunteers and donors. If you would like to donate, please contact GRCC through their apiary website.

All participants (even if just observing) must be registered. At this time, we do not have suits in kids sizes and participants must be at least 15 years of age to attend. Minors (15-17) must be accompanied by an adult.

The GRCC Apiary is located in Grand Rapids but is not accessible to the public outside of apiary nights. For security reasons, the location of the apiary will be shared with GRCC Apiary Night registrants only and will be provided approximately one week prior to the event.

 Beekeeping is weather-dependent. Participants will be notified if any schedule changes are needed.
