In this talk you will learn the importance of raising queens, selecting bees that fight mites, and knowing the enemy - VARRROA!
James Lee is the President of the Sustainable Beekeepers Guild of Michigan, a virtual educational organization with over 600+ local and international members. He is also the founder of the Northern Queen Initiative a mite-resistant queen breeding cooperative and owner of James Lee's Bees in Romulus, MI where he lives with his wife Rachel and their 5 children. James manages 60-100 colonies pursuing sustainability in apiculture and produces nucs and queens with a focus on hardy Northern climate survivors selected for mite-resistance.

Do you need to replace winter losses? Would you like to increase your hive count? Would you like some insurance against future losses? How about preventing swarming and still get a decent honey crop? Ray Lackey, Eastern Apiary Society Master Beekeeper with over 45 years of beekeeping experience will give you several methods of achieving all of these things in your own apiary by performing splits of your bee colonies.

Kim, a lifelong educator, began beekeeping eight years ago and now regularly presents on bees and pollinators at schools, libraries, and community groups. She is president of the Muskegon Area Beekeepers, and serves with the Michigan Beekeepers Association and Muskegon Conservation District.
Beekeepers will learn exactly how and why honeybees make wax, multiple methods for rendering beeswax, how to offer surplus beeswax for sale as an additional income stream and the dozens of things for which beeswax is used.

The Grand Rapids Area Beekeeping Club is a free, no dues club, all are invited. The Grand Rapids Bee Club accepts donations to offset expenses. Always check the club Facebook site before heading out in case the meeting is cancelled.
